About This Station
The station is powered by a Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station. The data is collected every 2 seconds and the web page is updated every 4-6 seconds. This site and its data is collected using Weather Display Software. The station consists of an anemometer, rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible. The indoor console measures barometric pressure, along with indoor temperature and humidity.
About GSWx.Net Gulf Shores Weather Net
Shortly after moving to Gulf Shores from Washington, D.C.,, I noticed main stream weather media sites would give conflicting information re: temperature, humidity, sunny or overcast conditions in Gulf Shores. The closest source for Gulf Shores weather was from the weather server at the Gulf Shores Fire Department.
Alternative weather stations in our area include, Foley and Lillian, Alabama. The datum collected by Foley, Lillian and Gulf Shores Weather Net are used by NOAA to develop trend analysis and forecasting. Additionally, The Citizens Weather Observer Programs collects data and forwards the information to NOAA, and made available for re broadcasting via the main stream media or other interested parties.
For example, WKRG Channel 5 uses our data from time to time for broadcasting. The weather equipment we use is from Davis. Davis manufactures and distributes weather systems, tools and weather related software to make it all work. Davis weather equipment is used by the Federal Govt. corporations, and by weather enthusiasts alike, all over the world, and even in Antarctica. Never make life or death decisions based upon weather data reported on this web site or any Internet weather site.
UV or ultra violet light data obtained from this web will be higher at the beach because of the reflectivity of the sand and water. Boaters and sun bathers need to be especially careful and use a good sun screen. Remember, if you can see or hear lightening you can be struck. Please take immediate cover until the storm passes. NOTICE - If you live in Foley or Orange Beach, you may be better served by the data provided to Weather Underground by browsing to Weather Underground Foley, Alabama or Weather Underground Lillian, Alabama.
